The Holiday Hustle: Balancing Goals with Real Life

Hustle mug

Let’s be honest. The holiday season comes in hot like a Beyoncé concert—you’re dazzled, overwhelmed, and wondering if your bank account is going to survive. Between the shopping, cooking, family drama, and endless invitations, goals can feel like the last thing on your mind. But guess what? You don’t have to choose between holiday chaos and your dreams. You can have both—without losing your edges.

The Reality Check

Quarter 4 is tough. You start with the best intentions, but then life says, “Here, hold this fruitcake.” Suddenly, your workouts get replaced with cookie swaps, your savings plan is competing with Black Friday, and let’s not even talk about how many peppermint mochas have disappeared. (We don’t count holiday calories, right?)

Here’s the truth: progress is still progress, even if it looks different in December. This is not about perfection—it’s about showing up in the middle of the madness.

My Story: From Betrayal to Breakthrough

I know what it feels like to have your goals derailed. Years ago, I started the Chicago Girlfriends Podcast. My vision? A reality-style show about real women, real talk, and real fun. Then, I met a woman who said she was a producer. We collaborated, I trusted her, and then—bam—the script flipped. Suddenly, my idea was being called hers. Money was scammed, and she completely took over the show.

I was a terrible mess behind it. Tears—oh, there were tears. Not just because of the betrayal, but because I had been so naïve. But here’s the thing: after the crying, the self-doubt, and the “why me,” I realized quitting wasn’t an option.

Instead of giving up, I reimagined my dream. That’s how CGF Entertainment Podcast was born. Me, plus some amazing friends, held it down for almost five years on Intellectual Radio. And you know what? It turned out better than what I lost.

Lesson? You can’t give up. Learn the lesson, take the hit, and move on. Sometimes the solution isn’t what you planned—but it may be the blessing you actually need.

Holiday Hustle Tips

So how do you balance all this during the busiest season of the year?

  • Set Micro-Goals: Forget climbing the whole mountain. Just take one step. “Write 2 paragraphs,” “walk 10 minutes,” “save $10.” Small adds up.

  • Time-Block with Boundaries: Schedule your non-negotiables—even if it’s only 20 minutes. Protect your time like you protect your plate at Thanksgiving.

  • Mix Fun with Focus: Multitask smart. Listen to an audiobook while wrapping gifts. Brainstorm goals while cooking mac and cheese.

  • Give Yourself Permission to Rest: Hustle doesn’t mean burnout. Sometimes the best move is sitting still.

The Wrap-Up

Balancing goals and real life is messy, but so is growth. Don’t wait until January to reset—finish strong, even if strong looks different this time of year.

Remember: Santa might check his list twice, but you don’t need perfection. You just need persistence.

Because life will throw you curveballs, betrayals, and peppermint mochas you didn’t ask for—but your bounce back is always the real story.
